Philosophy

My educational philosophy is that human beings learn best by thinking and doing, not being led around to pre-determined spots and told what settings to use. As a former teacher, I know how to achieve educational outcomes, so that you'll become a more capable photographer when shooting on your own after the workshop!

Each workshop is small, limited to no more than five participants per educator. This allows us to approach photography education in the most productive manner, collaboratively learning together.

Each workshop will include instruction, conversation and collaboration on subjects such as:

  • finding and scouting locations
  • planning general compositions in advance (such as aligning the Milky Way core with geographical features)
  • planning weather, light and light pollution, including sun/moon timing
  • your desired 'feel' for the image and choosing camera settings to suit
  • making imaging choices and adapting to environmental changes
  • composition, including finding and following the light, working with lines, textures, contrast and color, etc
  • processing and post-processing
  • equipment discussions when helpful or necessary

Private Workshops

Create your own workshop! What skills do you want to learn or refine? Milky Way Photography? Seascapes? Mountain Landscapes?

This workshop can be in a location of your choosing, on a day(s) of your choosing, and tackle the genre or skills of your choosing. Take a look through my philosophy above and think about what you can most benefit from. Then contact me and we can work together to craft something perfect!

Pricing varies by location and starts at $250/4hrs or $400/8rs. This can be a combination of in-field photographic time and planning/processing work.

You also receive a 15% discount on 1:1 virtual processing tutoring if you'd prefer to spend your time in the field.

Public Workshops

Single-Day/Night

Most workshops offered throughout the year are single-day (or night!) events focused on one specific topic, such as Milky Way, Star Trails, Woodland, Seascape, etc.

These single-day workshops are designed to be economical and easy, ideal for locals, or with any necessary travel and accommodation set up on your own.

Multi-Day

Multi-day workshops are a great opportunity to dive into the above topics in more depth. Each workshop is often geared around the desires of the participants, with locations chosen collaboratively based on anticipated conditions.

Please stay tuned for the release of upcoming workshop dates!
